Keep Your Car Running This Summer

As we move into the summer months, the hot temperatures can be hard on many including cars. Keep your vehicle working at its optimum level by staying up on your car maintenance. Some things to keep your eye on:

Heat can zap the life from batteries. Heat and vibration are two of the worst things for a battery and can lead to internal breakdown and failure. Although you cannot do much about the heat, it is good to make sure your battery is securely mounted to limit the vibrations and limit battery problems.

Keep your engine cool. Check your cooling system to ensure there is coolant to protect the radiator and internal engine components. Over time coolants can become contaminated and depleted. It is recommended you flush the system and replace the coolant every 2 years or 24,000 miles.

Check your tires. If your tires are under or over inflated, your risk for accidents, blowouts or flats rises. Keeping your tires properly inflated can help save you money at the pump too which can increase your vehicle’s fuel efficiency by up to 3%.

What are some of your summer maintenance check offs? Do you have any tips?
